Being the vintage I am, I’ve seen most of the major format changes in music recording and playback. I grew up with the vinyl LP, saw the first round of 8-track and cassette tapes, and then in the 1980s, realized (at the time) the pinnacle of music formatting, the compact disc. It wasn’t until the birth of the Internet (along with a deft prodding from my kids) that the concept of Ares file sharing software entered my reality. The mp3 format is not a stranger to me, but this concept was. My older boy told me one day, “Dad, just go view site for yourself and see how simple and extremely cool this software really is. There are so many songs you can’t be bored…ever.”
